Description and Review
The oldest team continuously run professional football team in NFL history was bred in Chicago, but it isn’t the Chicago Bears folks. Back in 1898 the Arizona Cardinals were created and went by the name of the Morgan Athletic Club. They were originally from the Chicago’s South Side and it wasn’t until about 1901 the team gained the nickname of the Cardinals. They played in the Chicago area until the club tmoved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1960 when the actual National Football League was created. The Cardinal remained based in St. Louis until 1987 when it relocated to Arizona where it remains today.
Although the Cardinals have never had a Super Bowl victory while being a member of the National Football League, they did have two Pre-Super Bowl championship years while based in Chicago. The first victory occurred in 1925, but is the subject of controversy, with supporters of the Pottsville Maroons believing that Pottsville should have won the title. Their second title, and the first to be received through a championship game, came in 1947, two decades before the first Super Bowl game was played.
